Agriturismo Terrarossa

Who are we?
Welcome to Terrarossa, my name is Fabrizio Sallusti, the owner of the farm. The idea of renovating this historic farmhouse came about after I finished my university studies. Initially, I continued to attend universities in various parts of Italy, first as a postgraduate and doctoral student (Ph.D) and then as a contract researcher. But soon after leaving my academic job, I decided to devote myself full-time to the farm and after a long and careful restoration, the accommodation was completed and the agriturismo was finally opened.

What can you expect?
Agriturismo Terrarossa is a wine farm between Cortona and Montepulciano, in southern Tuscany. The view on the vineyards of the property is incredible and on the horizon dominates the bell tower of the village of Valiano, about 1.5 miles ahead.
The farmhouse, characterized by two strong towers, has 9 apartments. It is part of an ancient 130 hectares (750 acres) estate where, respecting the balance of nature, wheat, sunflowers and grapes for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are cultivated.
The "Putto" (young angel) in Firenzuola stone seen on the main facade of the building testifies to the farm's possession (1660-1700) by the "Spedale degli Innocenti" of Florence.

What to do here?
We are between the cities of Cortona and Montepulciano, and closer between the hamlets of Centoia and Valiano. These hamlets have a grocery store and restaurant, Valiano is exactly 1,5 miles away.
This is the Valdichiana area, which is the southeast of Tuscany. It's agricultural triangle of the region, roughly between Arezzo, Cortona and Siena. Besides those cities themselves, you can combine different destinations in a day trip:
- Lake Trasimeno for a day on / on the water
- Pienza / Montepulciano / Val d'Orcia
- Perugia / Assisi
- San Gimignano / Siena
About the estate
The Terrarossa farm is located in the hills between Montepulciano and Cortona, and its ancient roots date back to the 11th century. Owned by the Marquises of Valiano, the Del Pecora family and then the Marquises Ridolfi, Terrarossa was donated in 1554 to the Spedale degli Innocenti of Florence. Terrarossa was in fact part of what in 1300 was the Fattoria di Valiano.
In 1883, Angelo Vegni, Nicola's son, used the farm's assets to support the foundation of an Institute for Higher Education in Agriculture, which bears his name and which still represents an original point of reference of high cultural and scientific value for the Valdichiana and the rest of Italy. Later most of the farms were sold and Terrarossa was bought by my father Luciano Sallusti at the end of the 1960s.
You are very welcome here.
